Moist von Lipwig and other people the CofE can learn from

SO! On the exciting VOCATIONS front: There is movement, praise the Lord. Things actually happening is good. Filling in forms, writing things down, yadda yadda, hooray!

On the wider Church of England front: Well, there was some excitement regarding the Synod, where the group talking about women bishops were essentially told, "Right. We have given you an impossible job. Do it faster, dangit!"

It's not that I like the idea of passing legislation taking a long time. It's not that I'm entirely at home with the idea of...'meh, maybe it'll take a bit longer'. Really. But it's not going to be the easiest thing to do, huh? Trying to keep everybody happy when very few people are happy to begin with is a pretty thankless task.

I am of the opinion, however, that the church needs to take a hint from Moist von Lipwig, creation of the indomitable Sir Terry Pratchett, known to his fans as Pterry. (Don't ask why).

Moist is of the opinion that you need to do things as fast as possible, once you've decided to do them. Preferably within the day. This swings people from one normal into another, and while it can be a little disorientating, people are remarkably adaptable. So they just adjust, and pretty soon the new 'normal' has always been normal.

There are probably also things the C of E could learn from Vetinari, now I think of it, but I can't think of what they would be off the top of my head...
