Dear readers,
A lot of things have been happening lately. Many lots of things. In no particular order:
I got turned down by the Bishop's Advisory Panel, so I'm not likely to be a priest any time soon,
I said yes to crack and dragged my clicking carcass to an osteopath,
My jobs (I have a second one now) are finishing in less than a month and I haven't got a new one yet,
BetterHalf and I are moving house (again, in less than a month) but we don't yet have anywhere permanent to go,
I'm working on improving my diet by reducing my intake of grains and sugar,
Oh, and I have caught a stomach bug which means that standing up and moving around is currently a bad idea.
So yeah. I'm a bit sick, and we have loads to do, so I've decided to make eating marginally more complicated. I am a clever person like that. But I figure that if my immune system needs bolstering at any time, it would be now, so why not?
The BAP was a bit of a shock, and not a pleasant one. I spent two days being cranky, one writing it all down, and most of the time thereafter either ignoring it or wondering what I was meant to do now. I went to Cov one Sunday shortly after, and there was a job advert in the notice sheet for a manager for the church. My church.
So...organising stuff, church work, and bossing people around? We have a trifecta, people. So I applied.
This was especially useful because my jobs finish at the same time my rent does...in approximately 20 days.
Unfortunately, filling in the form is not the same as getting the job.
And on the moving front... the house is an absolute mess of boxes, because with one small car we're moving stuff into storage (in different locations to boot!) over the next few weeks instead of all at once.
I got a second job two days a week with a lovely lady who runs a soft drinks company. It's a lot of printing and posting and stuffing envelopes, but hey, extra money, which will hopefully help with a) the osteopath and b) the moving house. But I can't really stuff envelopes from Lancashire, which is where we will be going at the end of the month (no jobs = no mortgage = no house.)
The osteopath has worked wonders after 3 sessions. I have one session left. And he gave me a discount on account of the lack of money, which was nice.
What am I going to do work wise? Well, I really hope I get this job. It would solve a lot of problems as well as being something that I really love to do. Frankly, jobs I can do with one hand tied behind my back are losing their appeal. If they ever really had any. If I don't get this job, then I hope and pray God has something better for me, and that I don't end up working in the boring end of admin for the rest of my natural life.
So, the food thing? Well, I love Stumptuous, and there was a link on there about grains, which linked to Mark's Daily Apple, a blog about 'Primal' eating (basic idea: we evolved to eat meat and vegetables and fruit. Grains, sugar, processed food...not really adapted to eat those, so they don't promote optimal health).
So I thought I'd give it a whirl.
This presents some challenges. First, I figure I would rather ease into it than crack it all at once. Second, trying to avoid pointless filler and just get meat and vegetables is quite difficult in some places (see dodgy Chinese restaurant where I may have picked up this bug). Third, when in possession of a bug, bland filler food like porridge seems very appealing.
Regardless, I'm going to try. And I'm going to start by making the following changes:
- a limit of one bowl of porridge a day, not two or three. And less sugar in it to boot.
- eat more eggs. I like eggs.
- have a 'proper' evening meal of meat and vegetables (note to self: look up some good sauces for that)
- two hours' weight training/week (no more, and preferably no less)
- more playing and messing around (very important)
Right, back to the money (I'm trying to work out how much we have - fun.)
I'll let you know how it goes.

I haven't been keeping up, but have been thinking of you now and again.
I know someone who was turned down the first time and is now a priest. If you'd like to talk to her about things I can ask her if she'd drop by.
